Remember your why
I remember my Mom having a lot of scars on her wrists. Occasionally I would ask about them and she would either answer or shut down emotionally.
She never hid them, but she also never healed from them.
You see, my Mom had a rougher upbringing than me.
Despite anything I went through as a child, my Mom had it worse.
Hell, it might have 5 or 10x worse.
So those scars on her wrists, served as reminders for her.
For me, they told me how tough my Mom was.
To honor her I always had to be tough.
I had to survive.
However one day, I wasn’t so tough. In fact, I felt absolutely helpless. Honestly, I can say over the course of my life, theres only been a few times I’ve felt that way.
One of those times, was a seemingly normal Sunday morning as a kid. It was hot, sunny, and we were walking down the hill of the apartment complex to catch the bus to church.
Everything was normal. Then in an instant it wasn’t.
My Mom had a seizure that day and collapsed in the middle of the street. At the time, I had no clue what to do. I didn’t even know what I was looking at. What I did know, is that I was scared and I felt helpless.
In fact, all I could do was scream and cry.
I definitely wasn’t tough that day.
That day wasn’t the first time, I watched my Mom get close to death’s door. However it stands as a reminder for me to never feel helpless and always try to help.
My story, my background, my whatever you want to call it, is based upon that simple word.
Help.
I can no longer help my Mom. She doesn’t need my help anymore, God has her.
But I can help others.
One way, amongst many that I have chosen, is to share any financial knowledge with as many people as possible.
Financial security would not have prevented my Mom from having a seizure that day. However it could have prevented the deterioration in her health, allowed us to live somewhere nicer, and given us a car that would have kept us out of the heat that day.
Whether you pay attention or car about money or not, money cares about you. Our finances affect every choice we make. Having financial security can ease the burden of stress on your mind, body, and soul.
Easing that stress and preventing others from feeling helpless is something I hope to help with.
