Embracing Purpose: My Journey to Empower Financial Well-being

Today marks Day 30 of my 31 Day Challenge, where I've been sharing financial content on YouTube daily. It's been an incredible month of growth and self-discovery, and I'm thrilled to have taken on this challenge. As I reflect on this journey, I've become even more resolute about my purpose. Let me take you back to how it all started and why I'm so passionate about what I do.

Finding Purpose Amidst the Pandemic

Back in 2020, when the pandemic hit, I witnessed countless people losing their jobs and resorting to GoFundMe campaigns on social media. It struck me deeply, especially because many of these individuals seemed financially secure from an outsider's perspective. Meanwhile, I was a newly established attending physician, barely making ends meet. However, I knew that my strong foundation of financial knowledge would eventually lead me to success. That's when my brother challenged me, urging me to find a way to help those who were struggling.

The Birth of Surgifi.com

Motivated by the desire to make a difference, I launched Surgifi.com. Over the past three years, it has grown steadily, particularly on Twitter, where I've been able to connect with a diverse audience. Yet, I felt there was more I could do, and the question of why I was doing all this started to weigh on my mind.

Rediscovering My Purpose

Recently, someone I deeply trust posed a simple yet profound question: "Why are you doing this, and who are you doing it for?" It took me back to my childhood and the conversations I had with my grandmother. She always asked if I would take care of my mom one day and ensure our well-being. I would reassure her, dreaming of becoming an NBA player and providing for my family. But life took its own course, and I never reached the heights of professional basketball. However, my commitment to taking care of my loved ones remained unwavering.

A Promise to My Late Mother

Tragically, I lost both my grandmother and my mother, and it left me feeling lost and disconnected from my purpose. It was during my mother's burial that I made her a solemn promise—I would save as many people as possible. As a surgeon, I can save lives one by one, but I wanted to extend my impact beyond that. Sharing the knowledge and tools I've acquired has become my way of empowering others to save themselves. I firmly believe in the saying, "Give a person a fish, and they'll eat for a day. Teach them to fish, and they'll eat for a lifetime." Surgifi.com is my avenue to educate and inspire others to take control of their finances.

The Importance of Financial Literacy

Finance holds tremendous importance in my life. I wish my mom had access to the financial knowledge I've acquired, and I wish a young 17-year-old me had a better understanding of why we struggled financially. Those memories of hardship still linger, making it essential for me to spread awareness and empower others. I want to help people overcome financial challenges, provide them with information, and guide them toward building wealth. The more we talk openly about money, the less it becomes a scary monster, and the more it becomes a tool for creating a brighter future.

A Vision for the Future

My ultimate goal is to reach over a million people with my financial insights and guidance by 2026. But I can't do it alone—I need your support. Every time you share my YouTube videos, Substack posts, or Twitter content, you help me get closer to that goal.
